I've taught Drupal since 2011 and trained over 50,000 people along the way. The goal hasn't changed: help you build a Drupal site you can run yourself, without writing custom code.

Who I teach

Most of my students didn't choose Drupal. Their organization did. They're content editors, site builders at small agencies, and web teams at nonprofits, universities, and government agencies, and they've got a site to get out the door.

So I teach the way I'd want to be taught. I show you what the finished page looks like, then the clicks it takes to get there. Configuration first. Custom code when the site actually needs it, and not before.

What I teach

  • Drupal 11 site building, and Drupal 12 as it lands
  • Page building with Drupal Canvas, Layout Builder, and Single Directory Components
  • Accessibility for the people who publish content every day
  • AI in Drupal: the AI module, Canvas AI agents, CKEditor AI, and automatic alt text
  • Content editor training for teams who inherit a site someone else built

AI in Drupal

AI showed up in Drupal fast. There's the AI module, AI agents inside Canvas, AI tools in CKEditor, and alt text written for you when you upload an image. Some of it saves real hours. Some of it makes a nice demo and not much else. I teach the difference.

I build with these tools every day. Jarvis, my open source Drupal theme, ships 21 components for Drupal Canvas and installs with one recipe. That recipe also sets up the AI stack: providers, 9 Canvas AI agents, CKEditor AI, and automatic alt text. You bring your own API keys. It's on GitHub if you want to poke at it.

I tell every class the same thing. AI can write the first draft of your alt text, your page copy, or your view configuration. A person checks it before it goes live.

Drupal AI training

If you'd rather have AI built into your site than learn to do it yourself, that's what my company, NavigateTomorrow, does. CivicMeetings.us, our captioning and transcript service for small-town public meetings, runs on Drupal.

Where you've seen me

Over the years I've recorded hundreds of Drupal tutorials for the OSTraining YouTube channel. My courses also run on Acquia Academy and LinkedIn, and I post on the DrupalHelps YouTube channel. You'll find me at DrupalCamps and DrupalCon, and I've been a guest on Talking Drupal.

I also build and maintain Drupal sites for a state university, nonprofits, and foundations. That client work is where I find out which shortcuts hold up and which ones I quietly stop teaching.

Outside of Drupal

I hold two master's degrees from Dallas Theological Seminary, and I teach the Bible and Sunday school. When I'm off the clock, I'm usually on my Goldwing or watching hockey.
